Zach Bryan Walked Onstage At Robert Kraft's Stadium In A "Free Palestine" Shirt — One Week After The Ed Sheeran Drama
Zach Bryan and his band wore "Free Palestine" shirts at Robert Kraft's Gillette Stadium, one week after the Ed Sheeran and Macklemore drama at the same venue. Here's the full backstory.
Well, THAT'S a statement. Zach Bryan just took the stage at the very stadium at the center of last week's Ed Sheeran and Macklemore saga, and his outfit did the talking.
What Happened
According to TMZ, Bryan played Friday night at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, as part of his With Heaven On Tour. He and members of his band were seen wearing shirts reading "Free Palestine."
Deadline notes that the venue is owned by Robert Kraft, and that Bryan's look came after Kraft and other venue owners pressured Ed Sheeran to drop Macklemore from his tour. Deadline also points to a fan video on X showing the band in the shirts.
Wait, Remind Me What Went Down With Ed And Macklemore?
Here's the quick catch-up, per the two outlets:
- TMZ reports that Macklemore shouted "Free Palestine" during his set at MetLife Stadium and performed "Hind's Hall" while footage from Gaza played behind him.
- Deadline reports that Kraft assembled several tour venues to give Sheeran an ultimatum, and Macklemore was dropped from the tour.
- Sheeran stayed publicly neutral and said it was the "promoter's decision," per Deadline.
- Finneas, Aaron Rowe and Lukas Graham then dropped out of the tour, along with Sheeran's backing band Beoga, according to Deadline.
- Sheeran's Gillette shows were later canceled because of severe weather, with a nor'easter heading for Boston, per both outlets.
Meanwhile, Deadline says Macklemore announced a Free Palestine Tour running Oct. 26-30 in Dublin, Paris and London, and that it "sold out immediately."
The Timing Is... Something
TMZ calls the timing "especially interesting," and honestly, we can't argue. Same stadium, same owner, one week later.
Bryan is also booked for a second night at Gillette on Saturday, and Deadline says it "remains to be seen if Kraft will pull the plug." TMZ says it reached out to Kraft's reps and hadn't heard back yet.
The Tea ☕
- Zach Bryan and his band wore "Free Palestine" shirts at Kraft-owned Gillette Stadium on Friday.
- It comes a week after Kraft was part of the push that got Macklemore booted from Ed Sheeran's tour.
- Bryan plays Gillette again Saturday, and there's no word yet from Kraft's camp.
One note: neither outlet has quoted Bryan explaining the shirts, so we're not putting words in his mouth. We'll update if he says anything.
So, where do you land? Is this a bold move from Bryan or a stunt that could blow up on Saturday night? Sound off below.
