Stop everything β€” because the MTV family just lost one of its brightest stars, and we are NOT okay. πŸ’”

Tyler Duckworth, the two-time winner of The Challenge who first appeared on Real World: Key West back in 2006, has died at age 44. His mother Joni confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook Thursday, writing, "My son, Tyler, passed away earlier this week."

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

He Was Found In His North Dakota Apartment

According to Page Six, Tyler was discovered unresponsive in the bathroom of his Grand Forks, North Dakota apartment on Tuesday. The case is classified as an unattended death, and police are waiting on toxicology results. There were no signs of foul play.

E! News reports that Tyler had recently undergone surgery, though it's unclear if that played any role in his death.

Here's what you need to know about Tyler's incredible reality TV legacy:

  • Made his debut on Real World: Key West in 2006, where he bonded with Paula Meronek and had iconic run-ins with Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio
  • Won TWO seasons of The Challenge β€” Cutthroat in 2010 (alongside Brad Fiorenza, Dunbar Merrill and Tori Fiorenza) and Rivals in 2011 (with none other than Johnny Bananas himself)
  • Competed on six seasons total, including All Stars 2 and All Stars 3 in the early 2020s
  • Just appeared at a Challenge Mania fan event in Minneapolis on August 2, less than two weeks before his death

His Castmates Are Absolutely Devastated

The tributes have been pouring in, and honestly? We're crying.

Tina Barta, who competed with Tyler multiple times over 20 years, shared an emotional video tribute on Instagram. "It's hard to find the right words when someone who was part of such a meaningful chapter of your life is suddenly gone," she wrote, according to Variety. "We shared an experience that very few people will ever fully understand, and somewhere along the way, it became more than a show or an adventure. It became friendship. It became history. It became family."

She added: "How blessed am I to be surprised by your visit to Challengemania where I got to hug and kiss you one last time. We didn't want to leave each other. We never do. I love you."

We are NOT okay reading that. 😭

Johnny Bananas β€” who went from Tyler's rival to his winning partner β€” posted a simple but powerful tribute: "When it rains it pours" alongside a heart emoji and duck emoji.

Wes Bergmann highlighted Tyler's unique impact on the community: "Tyler was a remarkable man and a great friend to many. He made fantastic television. He was a great challenger. He was a very good swimmer. And eater." He ended with a plea: "This is a really tough loss. Call your friends people."

He Loved The Fans Right Back

Tyler's final Instagram post, shared just days before his death, was all about gratitude for the Challenge community.

"So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis along with these other challenge legends," he wrote after the Challenge Mania event. "The fans are what keep us coming out! Hearing your stories of courage, inspiration & joy that you've got being a fan of the franchise is humbling each and every time."

The Minneapolis native was a teacher by profession and clearly brought that same warmth and enthusiasm to everything he did.

The Show's Producers Are Gutted

Bunim/Murray Productions, which produces The Challenge, released a statement to Variety: "Tyler was truly part of the Bunim/Murray family, he was an exceptional human being and beloved by both fans and his fellow contestants alike on 'The Challenge.' He will be missed by us all and our heart goes out to his family, his friends and everyone who enjoyed watching him compete on the show across so many seasons."

Showrunner Justin Booth added: "The young man who first came into our universe as a comical and sensitive personality developed into a force who would become a two-time champion, and he will be sorely missed. We are devastated."

From The Iconic Backpack Elimination To Champion

If you're a Challenge fan, you KNOW Tyler's legacy. He sent Johnny Bananas home in the legendary backpack elimination on Cutthroat β€” yes, really β€” before the two put their rivalry aside to win Rivals together and split the $100,000 prize the very next season.

That's the kind of competitor and human Tyler was β€” someone who could turn a bitter rivalry into a championship partnership.

Tyler leaves behind a legacy of laughter, competition, and genuine connection with both his castmates and fans. The reality TV world just lost a real one, and we're sending all our love to his family, friends, and the entire Challenge community right now.

Rest in peace, Mighty Duckworth. You will be so, so missed. πŸ•ŠοΈ
