This New Pep Guardiola Documentary Just Revealed The Explosive Kyle Walker Bust-Up β And We Are NOT Okay π
A new Amazon Prime series captures the moment Pep Guardiola broke down in tears over his captain's departure, plus THAT dressing room argument, his divorce drama, and the emotional chaos behind Man City's trophyless season.
Stop everything, because the Pep Guardiola documentary we didn't know we needed just dropped β and it is INTENSE.
A new Amazon Prime series covering Guardiola's final two seasons at Manchester City has given us unprecedented access to the chaos behind the scenes. And honestly? We are shook. π
The Tea β
- A new documentary reveals Pep Guardiola's emotional breakdown after captain Kyle Walker asked to leave Man City in January 2025
- Cameras captured a HEATED dressing room argument between the pair after a loss at Anfield
- The series also shows Guardiola going through his divorce and nearly quitting during City's four-game losing streak
The Captain Drama That Broke Pep
The most jaw-dropping moment comes when Guardiola addresses his squad just days after Walker's departure to AC Milan on loan in January 2025.
"So sad, what happened with Kyle," he tells the team before a home match with Chelsea, according to BBC Sport. "But you cannot behave as a captain the way he has done it. You cannot, in the toughest moments in our lives."
Then he asks his players point-blank: "What did you do my friends? What did you do with your captain? Tell me, what did you do?"
The emotion is REAL, and we are not prepared.
And Then It Got Worse
The documentary doesn't just show the aftermath β it captures the actual argument that led to the fallout.
After a December 2024 loss at Anfield (where Walker lost the ball to Luis Diaz before the Liverpool winger won a penalty), cameras caught Guardiola calling out his captain in the dressing room.
"Kyle has to know that if you lose the ball it's a goal," Pep says β which makes Walker snap back: "Every meeting, it's my name."
Guardiola's ice-cold response? "Maybe because you're a captain."
Walker fires back: "OK. You didn't want me to be your captain."
OOF. The tension is THICK, and you can practically feel it through the screen.
The Moment Pep Nearly Quit
But wait β there's more. The series reveals just how close Guardiola came to walking away from City completely.
After losing four games in a row in 2024 (the first time that had EVER happened in his career), Pep told the club: "Maybe it's over."
City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admits he wasn't sure he could convince the legendary manager to stay. "You know the boy that cried wolf? He is the boy that cried wolf," Al Mubarak says in the documentary. "I always convince him, but last year, I knew, this time he actually saw the wolf."
Shortly after signing his contract extension in November 2024, the doc shows Guardiola in tears telling his team: "If I'm a problem, then you have to tell me. I won't stay here just for the money, or just for the fact to stay."
He continues: "I extended the contract because I want to be here with you, I want to win a fight in that position. I don't want to feel that I'm leaving and running away from you."
We are WEEPING.
The Divorce That Changed Everything
There were plenty of reasons for City's disappointing 2024-25 campaign β the 115 charges hanging over the club, Rodri's long-term injury, an ageing squad needing a rebuild.
But the documentary reveals something even more personal: Guardiola was going through a divorce.
Remember those scratches on his head and nose that sparked media speculation during a November 2024 Champions League draw with Feyenoord? Yeah, that was all happening while his personal life was falling apart.
Manel Estiarte, a long-time member of Guardiola's technical staff, reveals he had to address players who were worried about their manager's behaviour.
"They were worried because Pep was anxious," Estiarte says in the series. "He was sad. He was different. And only I knew the reason. And I said to the team, 'please, you have to understand... You're seeing a human being. He's getting a divorce.'"
Following a defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in November 2025, Guardiola tells his squad: "I work for you and I leave my life, my divorce and my family is away and everything for all of you. And what do you give back? The performance you have done, all of you. It's a disgrace guys."
He adds: "When I see that, I am exhausted, I'm drained, I want to quit. When you play like this, I feel alone."
BRUTAL. And heartbreaking.
The Emotional Goodbye to Kevin De Bruyne
It's not all about Walker, though. The series also captures the tough decision to let Kevin De Bruyne leave after 10 trophy-laden years at the Etihad.
The Belgian midfielder breaks down while speaking about the impact on his family β and Guardiola admits it "kills" him to let the 35-year-old go.
"Without Kevin, that period - forget about it," Pep says. "He was crying here [in the office]. Oh God. I have affection for that player. We lived incredible things together. Then you have to be more cold."
The rebuild also brought in exciting French winger Rayan Cherki for Β£30m in June 2025, though sporting director Hugo Viana reveals there were question marks over his attitude. "The information on Cherki was not so positive, I will be very honest," Viana admits. "Everybody knew about his abilities, but there was this idea that he was chaotic."
(Spoiler: Cherki ended up being one of City's standout players last season with four goals and 12 assists in 33 Premier League matches.)
What's Next for Pep?
Guardiola stepped down as City manager at the end of the 2025-26 campaign after 10 years and 20 trophies, including both the FA Cup and League Cup in his final season.
Speaking about his future in the documentary, he says: "I don't know even myself what I am going to do. It will be difficult to come back. That's my feeling today. I need to refresh many things that happened in my personal life."
Walker, meanwhile, made 316 appearances for City and won six Premier League titles under Guardiola after signing from Tottenham in 2017 for Β£50m. His final season at the Etihad was dogged by poor results as City ended 2024-25 trophyless β just the second time that had happened since Guardiola joined in July 2016.
The documentary is a raw, emotional look at one of football's greatest managers at his most vulnerable β and we genuinely cannot stop thinking about it.
