Taylor Swift Just Dropped $50K On A Heroic Mom's GoFundMe β And Wait Until You Hear What She Did To End Up In Hospital π
Taylor Swift is making headlines again β but this time it's not for chart domination or a sold-out stadium. It's for an act of pure generosity that has the internet SOBBING.
The pop superstar just donated $50,000 to a Connecticut mom who nearly died saving teenagers from a horror car crash. Yes, really.
The Most Heroic Thing You'll Hear Today
The Tea β
- Ashley Taunton, 42, pulled over on I-95 in Rhode Island during a rainstorm on July 18 to help teens whose car had hydroplaned
- Another car lost control and came barreling toward them β Ashley pushed one teen to safety and got struck herself
- She suffered multiple fractured ribs, a ruptured diaphragm, internal bleeding, and injuries to her liver and spleen
- Taylor Swift donated $50K to her GoFundMe with a message signed simply "Taylor"
According to TMZ and Page Six, Ashley Taunton was driving with her youngest daughter when she spotted three teenagers in trouble after their vehicle hydroplaned during a severe rainstorm last month.
"When I see there's somebody in trouble, I tend to want to go help," Ashley told People. So she left her daughter safely in the car and went to check on the teens, who were "a little bit banged up."
But then things got terrifying.
As Ashley tried to move the group out of harm's way, another vehicle lost control on the wet roadway and came barreling straight at them. Ashley managed to push one of the teens out of the path β but she was struck herself.
The Injuries Were Devastating
The mom of three suffered multiple fractured ribs, a ruptured diaphragm, internal bleeding, and serious injuries to her liver and spleen, Page Six reports.
She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital and now faces what could be a year-long recovery process including extensive physical therapy.
And here's where it gets even more emotional: Ashley later discovered that one of the teenagers whose life she saved was Vinny, the son of her longtime friend Jamie O'Rourke.
"Oh my gosh, that was Ashley? She saved my son's life," Ashley recalled her friend saying when she found out. "She was so courageous to put herself in danger."
Enter: Taylor Swift
A GoFundMe was launched to help Ashley, her husband Joe, and their three children with expenses while she recovers β and that's when Taylor Swift showed up.
The "Cruel Summer" singer donated $50,000 β the fundraiser's largest individual donation β along with the sweetest message: "Wishing you the best recovery possible and sending love to your family!" She signed it simply, "Taylor."
We are CRYING.
Taylor's Giving Era Continues
As TMZ notes, this is totally on-brand for Taylor, who's become known for opening her wallet to people and organizations in need. She and husband Travis Kelce donated a jaw-dropping $26 million to 20 different charities ahead of their wedding this summer β including $2 million to the late Dolly Parton's Imagination Library literacy program.
Taylor frequently makes sizable donations to food banks, disaster-relief efforts, and fans facing financial hardships. The woman literally cannot stop being generous, and we are HERE for it.
A New Perspective On Life
Ashley told outlets that the frightening ordeal has given her a completely new outlook. She's grateful to be alive and has learned not to take her time with loved ones for granted as she faces the long road to recovery.
Honestly, this whole story has us feeling ALL the feelings. Ashley's courage, Taylor's generosity, the fact that Ashley saved her friend's son without even knowing it β it's almost too much for our hearts to handle. π
