Randy Quaid Just Called Anne Hathaway A "Horrible Choice" For 'Days Of Thunder 2' And The Reason Is WILD π
The original 'Days of Thunder' star went OFF on Anne Hathaway's casting in the Tom Cruise sequel, calling her "woke," "not sexy," and β wait for it β "pregnant." This rant is absolutely unhinged.
Stop what you're doing, because Randy Quaid just went full throttle on Anne Hathaway β and we are NOT okay. π
The original Days of Thunder star absolutely lost it on Saturday after Paramount announced that Anne Hathaway will join Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 1990 NASCAR racing flick. And his reason for hating the casting? Buckle up, because it's WILD.
"Anne Isn't Sexy... She's Pregnant"
According to TMZ, Deadline, and Variety, Quaid β who played NASCAR team owner Tim Daland in the original film β took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his very strong opinions about the Oscar-winning actress.
"We need Nicole [Kidman] back," Quaid wrote. "Don't be a pussy, @TomCruise. You need the original girl. It's not personal; it's filmmaking. Anne isn't sexy, because and if you haven't noticed, she's pregnant."
Yes, really. He said that.
The Tea β
- Randy Quaid blasted Anne Hathaway as a "leftist, woke, horrible choice" for Days of Thunder 2
- He wants Tom Cruise to reunite with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman instead, calling her "the original girl"
- His reasoning includes claiming Hathaway "isn't sexy" because she's currently pregnant with her third child
- The rant came just hours after Paramount announced Hathaway's casting opposite Cruise
It Got WORSE
But wait β there's more! In a follow-up post, Quaid called Hathaway "a leftist, woke, horrible choice" for the film, claiming the NASCAR audience is "MAGA" and won't connect with her.
"The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole," he continued, according to Variety. "That's the casting that would sell the idea."
Quaid even suggested that the sequel is being rushed to production and predicted it would "tank" at the box office. Because nothing says "helpful feedback" like publicly trashing your potential co-star before filming even begins, right? π
About That Nicole Kidman Suggestion...
Here's the thing: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman famously met on the set of the original Days of Thunder in 1990 and got married later that year. They were one of Hollywood's biggest power couples before divorcing in 2001.
While a reunion would certainly be interesting, Quaid seems to have missed the memo that pregnant women can still be sexy, successful, and cast in major films. Revolutionary concept, we know.
What We Know About Days of Thunder 2
According to Variety, Paramount announced the sequel on Saturday during an event at Daytona International Speedway. Hathaway is expected to play a race team owner and engineer opposite Cruise's returning character, Cole Trickle.
The film is slated for a June 2, 2028 release and will be shot for IMAX. Jonathan Levine is set to direct, with Will Staples penning the script. Cruise will produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.
The original Days of Thunder made $157.9 million worldwide and starred Cruise, Kidman, Robert Duvall, and yes, Randy Quaid.
The Internet Had THOUGHTS
Unsurprisingly, Quaid's comments didn't exactly land well. As one commenter on Deadline pointed out: "Well that's one way to offend every woman that's ever been pregnant."
Another added: "And Anne Hathaway is gorgeous, charming, and talented, so shut up Randy."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Anne Hathaway is a literal Disney Legend (she was honored earlier this year!), an Oscar winner, and one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood. The idea that being pregnant somehow disqualifies her from being "sexy" or capable of carrying a major film is, frankly, absurd.
Also? Reps for Paramount and Hathaway have not responded to the comments, probably because they're too busy being professional adults. π
