Piers Morgan Is 'Sledging' His Own Golf Partner At The Alfred Dunhill Links — And It Is Somehow Working

Matthew Jordan shot a 65 to storm into contention at the Alfred Dunhill Links, despite his celebrity partner Piers Morgan's relentless heckling, including a "Don't do a Jonesy" dig before a two-footer.

Stop scrolling, because the most chaotic golf partnership of the weekend has arrived, and it involves Piers Morgan, a missed two-foot putt, and a pro who is just trying to survive.

The Setup

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is the one where pros are paired with celebrity amateurs for the team part of the event. This year, English pro Matthew Jordan drew Piers Morgan as his playing partner. Lucky him? Debatable.

According to Sky Sports, Jordan fired a seven-under 65 at Carnoustie to crash into contention. He did it while putting up with what Sky calls Morgan's "good-natured criticism" and what Jordan calls something a little more intense.

'It's All About Him'

Jordan, who is chasing his first DP World Tour win in his 183rd tournament (yes, really), did not hold back on how the round felt.

"The amount of sledging that goes on towards me is incredible," he said, per Sky Sports. He added that they're meant to be a team, but "honestly it's all about him and that's how he makes it."

Then came the Peter Jones incident. Jordan says Dragons' Den's Peter Jones missed a two-foot putt on the 15th. Moments later, Jordan had a two-footer of his own, and Morgan sidled up with the words: "Don't do a Jonesy."

Jordan says that "puts the heebie-jeebies in you over that small putt." We are NOT okay. That is psychological warfare delivered by your own teammate.

Did It Break Him? Absolutely Not

Here's the plot twist: Jordan carded six birdies and an eagle in the round. His only mishap was a bogey on the ninth, his final hole, which left him at 10 under and in a four-way tie for second.

Whether Morgan's heckling is a distraction or accidental motivational coaching is a debate for the group chat.

The Rest Of The Leaderboard Had Drama Too

  • South Africa's Casey Jarvis leads by one on 11 under after a 67 at Kingsbarns.
  • Spaniard Rocco Repetto Taylor shot an eight-under 64, the round of the day, and sits 10 under alongside Jordan and MJ Daffue.
  • Defending champion Bob MacIntyre is at eight under, level with Brooks Koepka.
  • Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick are both on six under.
  • In their first DP World Tour appearances in nearly four years, LIV golfers Lee Westwood (four under) and Ian Poulter (four over after a 76) are also in the field.

Sky also showed surfing legend Kelly Slater sending a very wayward tee shot into the sea at St Andrews, which is both a sentence and a mood.

The Tea ☕

  • Matthew Jordan shot a 65 at Carnoustie and sits 10 under, one off the lead.
  • He says playing partner Piers Morgan "sledges" him constantly, including a "Don't do a Jonesy" dig before a short putt.
  • Casey Jarvis leads on 11 under heading into the weekend.

So, is Morgan the world's most annoying playing partner or Jordan's secret weapon? And if you were one putt from your first tour win, would you want him in your ear? Sound off below.
