Nicole Kidman Just Revealed The ONE Thing About Getting Divorced Twice That Will Break Your Heart π
The Oscar winner opened up about her splits from Tom Cruise AND Keith Urban β and what she said about doing it all over again is absolutely devastating.
Stop scrolling, because Nicole Kidman just got REAL about divorce β and honestly? We're not okay.
The Practical Magic star, who finalized her split from Keith Urban earlier this year after 19 years of marriage, just opened up to British Vogue about what it's like to go through a high-profile breakup for the second time. And her answer is absolutely heartbreaking.
"It's all new," Kidman told the magazine when asked how her divorce from Urban compares to her 2001 split from Tom Cruise. "Every time!"
Yes, really. Even after weathering one of Hollywood's most famous breakups two decades ago, the actress says the pain of her recent divorce feels just as raw and unfamiliar.
The Tea β
- Nicole Kidman opened up about divorcing Keith Urban after 19 years and how it compares to her Tom Cruise split
- Despite going through it before, she says divorce feels "all new" β every single time
- She's processing an "unexpected" future she never planned for, but choosing hope over fear
- The actress is rumored to be dating businessman Michael Reinstein
"I Didn't Expect This"
The Big Little Lies star β who shares daughters Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15, with Urban, plus kids Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31, with Cruise β admitted she's still processing the end of her marriage.
"At the same time I'm like, 'OK, I didn't expect this,'" she explained. "I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now."
Kidman, who has been spotted multiple times with businessman Michael Reinstein since the split, said she's had to completely reimagine her future. "You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it's all going to be like and then it's⦠not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it's completely unknown to me right now."
Gut-wrenching, right?
From Child Bride to Hollywood Icon
The actress also reflected on marrying Cruise when she was just 22 years old β a decision that thrust her into the spotlight overnight.
"I got married so young," she recalled. "Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple."
And when people warned her that marrying Cruise would tank her career? She didn't care.
"I'm like, 'I don't care. I'm in love. I want to be married,'" Kidman said. "'Of course I'll throw my career away. I don't care.'"
The Eyes Wide Shut actress said she became comfortable in the spotlight almost immediately because of her relationship with Cruise β a skill that's served her well through decades of fame.
Choosing Hope Over Fear
Despite the pain, Kidman is determined to stay open to whatever comes next.
"There was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable," she admitted, "which is exposing. And then at the same time [I'm] going, 'Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.'"
According to E! News, Kidman and Urban quietly separated at the beginning of summer 2025, with the actress officially filing for divorce in September. The former couple shares joint custody of their daughters, with Kidman serving as the primary residential parent.
The split came after notable moments including Urban walking out of an interview when asked about Kidman's onscreen chemistry with Zac Efron, and the actress applying for residency in Portugal without him.
And We're Emotional
The fact that Nicole Kidman β who has been through literally everything Hollywood can throw at someone β still finds divorce "all new" every time? That's the kind of honesty we didn't know we needed today.
The actress isn't letting her head rule her heart, though. "I've always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail? Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities," she explained.
We're not crying, you're crying. π
