Stop scrolling, because Muse frontman Matt Bellamy just dropped a divorce bombshell β€” and it comes with a MAJOR custody twist that has everyone talking.

The "Starlight" singer filed to end his seven-year marriage to model Elle Evans on Wednesday, citing the classic "irreconcilable differences." But here's where it gets spicy: Bellamy is asking for sole legal AND physical custody of their two kids β€” daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2.

Yes, really. SOLE custody.

The Tea β˜•

  • Matt Bellamy filed for divorce from Elle Evans after 7 years of marriage
  • He's requesting sole custody of their two young children
  • Evans told TMZ she'll fight for the kids, calling the marriage "unbearable"
  • The couple secretly split last summer but kept it under wraps until now
  • They have a prenup in place

She's Not Having It

And Elle? She's already making it clear she has NO intention of letting that happen. According to TMZ, who broke the news first, Evans told them she will absolutely fight for custody of Lovella and George.

She also described the divorce as "a long time coming" after what she called an "unbearable" marriage. Ouch.

Page Six reports that while the 48-year-old rocker didn't list an official separation date in the filing, he actually spilled the tea about their split earlier this summer in an interview with i Paper back in June.

The Secret Split

Bellamy revealed they'd called it quits last summer, blaming what he described as "a set of really unexpected circumstances." He kept things cryptic, saying it involved "something that people wouldn't normally think it is" and "the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life."

He said the split "threw me off" and that he had to "prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home." Which makes his request for sole custody a bit less surprising, honestly.

The Grammy winner also credited the "life-changing experience" with inspiring his band's latest album, calling it a "lifeline" and "catharsis." He told i Paper the music just poured out of him during that time. (At least someone got a killer album out of this mess? 🎸)

The Kate Hudson Connection

Here's a fun fact that's making this even MORE interesting: Bellamy shares a 15-year-old son, Bingham, with his ex-fiancΓ©e Kate Hudson β€” yes, THAT Kate Hudson.

According to Page Six, the "Almost Famous" star has previously raved about their co-parenting dynamic. She told Women's Health back in 2021 that Bellamy wanted Bingham to feel like he was "gaining something, not losing something" when they ended their engagement.

Hudson even said at the time: "I think it's even bonded us closer β€” me, Matt, Elle and [my fiancΓ©], Danny [Fujikawa] β€” because we have to trust that we're protecting each other."

Well, THAT dynamic is about to get a whole lot more complicated now, isn't it?

How We Got Here

Let's rewind: Matt and Elle started dating in 2015 after meeting on the set of Muse's "Mercy" music video. (Nothing says romance like a rock video shoot, apparently.) He proposed two years later during a romantic Fiji getaway, and they tied the knot in August 2019 in Malibu.

Their daughter Lovella was born in June 2020, and their son George arrived in May 2024 β€” so this split happened pretty soon after their second baby was born. The timing is... telling.

In his divorce filing, Bellamy also asked for his ability to receive spousal support to be terminated. But don't worry about anyone going broke here β€” the couple has a prenuptial agreement in place, so at least THAT part should be straightforward. (One less thing to fight about, we guess?)

What Happens Next?

Now comes the messy part: the custody battle. With Bellamy requesting sole custody and Evans vowing to fight, this could get seriously ugly. And with two young kids caught in the middle? We're really hoping these two can find a way to co-parent peacefully, the way Matt does with Kate.

But given that Elle called the marriage "unbearable" and Matt's been cryptic about what went wrong, we have a feeling there's A LOT more to this story that hasn't come out yet.

Reps for both Bellamy and Evans haven't commented beyond the court filing and Elle's statement to TMZ. So for now, we're left watching this play out in real time β€” and honestly? We are NOT okay. πŸ’”
