Celine Dion Is Training Like An ATHLETE To Return To The Stage β And Her Comeback Plan Will Give You ALL The Feelings πͺ
The icon is doing 90-minute Pilates sessions three times a week, taking ballet classes, and preparing for 10 sold-out Paris shows this fall β all while battling a rare neurological condition. "I'm living the life, girl."
Stop everything, because Celine Dion just gave the most inspiring interview about her road back to the stage β and honestly? We are NOT ready to cry this hard on a Tuesday.
The Queen of Power Ballads sat down with Harper's Bazaar and revealed exactly what it's taking to prepare for her upcoming Paris shows this fall. And when we say she's training like an Olympic athlete, we mean it literally.
The Workout Routine Is INSANE
According to Page Six, Celine is doing 90-minute Pilates sessions up to three times a week PLUS two ballet classes as she gears up for her September and October concerts at the Paris La DΓ©fense Arena.
Yes, really. Ballet classes. At 58. While battling stiff person syndrome.
The "My Heart Will Go On" singer isn't messing around β she's undergone physical therapy, vocal therapy, immunotherapy, and been prescribed new medications since her 2022 diagnosis with the rare neurological autoimmune disease.
The Tea β
- Celine added an extra week of Paris shows after the initial 10 concerts sold out instantly
- She's been doing intensive rehab including 90-min Pilates sessions 3x per week + ballet classes
- She told Harper's Bazaar she first experienced symptoms 17 years before her 2022 diagnosis
- According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, stiff person syndrome causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms that can worsen over time
"I'm Living The Life, Girl"
But here's what's got us truly in our feelings: Celine's entire mindset about her comeback.
"Instead of questioning life, can you live life?" she asked the outlet. "So I'm living my life, girl. I'm living the life."
E! News reports that the singer gushed about her progress, admiring how she's "fallen and gotten back up so many times" throughout her rehabilitation. She even revealed she's ready for ALL aspects of public life again β even the annoying parts.
"If you don't want to sign autographs and you don't want to get yourself pretty and you don't want to be disturbed because your pasta is going to get cold, you can always stay home," she reflected. "But look at what you have."
Why She's Doing This
The emotional reason behind Celine's determination? Her fans.
"It's been so long," the icon told Harper's Bazaar. "I would like to offer them something to show how I've missed them."
She explained that after hiding her condition for years (she experienced symptoms for 17 years before getting diagnosed!), she felt she owed her supporters the truth. "They paid for tickets. They bought my records. They gave me that luxury. So the least I can do is tell them that I'm alive."
And honestly? We're not crying, you're crying. π
The Comeback Is REAL
The diagnosis forced Celine to cancel her entire Courage World Tour back in May 2023, admitting at the time that "it's not fair to you to keep postponing the shows."
But after appearing at the 2024 Paris Olympics to perform Γdith Piaf's "Hymne A L'Amour" (ICONIC) and at the 1001 Seasons of Elie Saab fashion show in Saudi Arabia, she's ready to give her fans the full concert experience again.
The initial 10 Paris shows sold out so fast that she added another full week of performances for September and October. Because when Celine Dion makes a comeback, she doesn't do it halfway.
And Then It Got Emotional
Before her diagnosis, Celine would cancel shows thinking she had a sinus infection or cough β not realizing she was dealing with a serious neurological condition.
"All I know is singing," she said in her emotional 2022 diagnosis announcement. "It's what I've done all my life, and it's what I love to do the most."
Stiff person syndrome affects muscle stiffness and can make walking and performing incredibly difficult. But Celine's choosing to fight back with an athlete's discipline β Pilates, ballet, therapy, new treatments, the whole nine yards.
"I have two choices," she told Vogue France in 2024. "Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it's over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself."
She chose the hard way. And we are HERE for it.
So if you need us, we'll be refreshing ticket sites hoping for Paris show availability and ugly-crying to "Because You Loved Me" for the rest of the day.
