A Survivor Star Just Won Big Brother 28 By Cutting His "Son" — Here's The Finale Betrayal Everyone's Screaming About
A Survivor star just made Big Brother history, and he did it by cutting his closest ally. Here's the finale twist, the jury vote and the $810K total.
Spoilers ahead, Big Brother fans! If you haven't watched the finale, look away NOW.
Still here? Good. A Survivor player has officially won Big Brother for the first time ever, and he did it by dropping his closest ally at the very last second. Yes, really.
The Tea ☕
- Rick Devens (a two-time Survivor alum) won Big Brother 28 and the $750,000 prize with a 6-1 jury vote, per Page Six.
- He also took home America's Favorite Player, pushing his total haul to $810,000.
- CBS has already renewed the show for Seasons 29 and 30, according to Deadline.
The Move That Shocked Fans
Here's where it gets juicy. Going into the finale, the final three were Devens, Taylor Brown and Drew Campbell, as The Hollywood Reporter lays out.
Taylor won part one of the final Head of Household. Devens beat Drew in part two, then beat Taylor in part three. That made him the final HOH with ONE big decision to make.
He cut Drew.
According to Page Six, Devens and Drew had been so tight all season that they often called each other "father" and "son." Taking Taylor to the final two instead was, in Page Six's words, a shocker for fans. Sorry, Drew. 💔
Page Six also notes that Julie Chen Moonves told viewers Taylor had made a strong pitch for Devens to take her to the end. Clearly it worked, just not in the way she hoped.
The Jury Spoke (Loudly)
Devens got six of seven votes, from Angela Murray, Barrett Pfeiffer, Yash Patel, Melody Morris, Dee Valladares and, yes, Drew himself. Only LaTrice "Lala" Verrett voted for Taylor, who took home the $75,000 runner-up prize.
Drew finishing third and then voting for the man who evicted him? Honorable. Or maybe just realistic.
A Historic Night For Reality TV
Per The Hollywood Reporter, this is the first time a Survivor player has ever won Big Brother. Devens appeared on Survivor 38 (Edge of Extinction) and the landmark Survivor 50, and joined this season as one of the "Icons" alongside fellow Survivor champ Dee Valladares and BB26 alum Angela Murray.
Before the finale, Page Six reports, BB13 winner Rachel Reilly said she hoped a Survivor player would "steamroll" the game. Rachel, your wish has been GRANTED.
The Drama Outside The Finale
Drew was a hot topic all season. Page Six says several houseguests, including Mallory Aurichio and Yash Patel, felt betrayed by him. Patel admitted to "hard feelings" about the game, but added that "game is game" and he won't carry it into the real world.
Melody Morris, who had a "flirtmance" with Drew in the house, told Page Six she'd "love" him as a friend but wouldn't date him. Ouch, but kindly said.
And Dee Valladares revealed that if SHE had won the final HOH, she would have cut her fellow Survivor alum too. So nobody was safe, not even the Icons.
The Numbers Don't Lie
Deadline reports that Big Brother became the first primetime series to hit 1,000 original episodes, and earned two Guinness World Records. CBS says viewers watched 14.8 billion minutes this season, up 9%, and it was the summer's most social program on all of TV (excluding sports).
Final placements, per THR: Devens (1st), Taylor Brown (2nd), Drew Campbell (3rd), Dee Valladares (4th), Melody Morris (5th), Yash Patel (6th), Barrett Pfeiffer (7th), Angela Murray (8th), LaTrice Verrett (9th).
So, was cutting Drew the smartest move of the season, or the coldest? And should more Survivor players be cast on Big Brother? Team Devens or Team Drew? Sound off below.
