A 3-Hour Elizabeth Holmes Documentary Is Fighting A DC Superhero Movie For No. 1 — And It's Winning By $200K
A nearly three-hour Elizabeth Holmes documentary and DC's Clayface are locked in a $200K photo finish for No. 1 on a sleepy Halloween weekend. Here's the tea, the numbers and the memes.
Stop scrolling, because the box office just did something we did NOT see coming: a nearly three-hour documentary about Elizabeth Holmes is neck and neck with a Batman-universe movie for the No. 1 spot in its THIRD weekend. Yes, really.
The Photo Finish
According to Variety, A24's You Can See Everything is estimated at $10.6 million, while DC's Clayface sits just behind at $10.4 million. Final numbers land Monday, so this could still flip.
Deadline notes that some rival estimates actually show Clayface ahead, but even then the gap is only about $200K. Translation: we're in staring-contest territory.
Variety quotes Rentrak's Paul Dergarabedian calling it "a rare achievement for any film, let alone a documentary running more than three hours."
The Tea ☕
- The doc: You Can See Everything has made about $63.9 million domestically so far, per Variety. A24 reportedly made it for $7 million. Do the math. 💸
- The rival: R-rated Clayface has earned $44.1 million in North America and $83 million worldwide, and cost a lean $44 million, which Variety calls a modest win for DC.
- The vibe: All films combined grossed an estimated $62-64 million, Deadline says is the third-lowest weekend of the year. Halloween landing on a Saturday means families went trick-or-treating instead of to the multiplex.
The Memes Are Doing The Heavy Lifting
Deadline credits the doc's run to nonstop social media memes, plus Holmes and Nathan Fielder being the "it" Halloween costumes this year. Honestly? A Halloween costume making a box office chart is peak 2026.
The film is also getting Oscar chatter. Deadline has already run a commentary piece on its awards possibilities, and Page Six says its directors are "hotly tipped for Oscar glory."
The Gossip Corner (Speculation Alert 🚨)
Page Six also ran an exclusive in which anonymous sources claim Fielder "fell in love" with Holmes during filming. That is unconfirmed source talk, and Fielder didn't respond to Page Six's request for comment. We're filing it firmly under "rumor mill," not fact.
What Page Six does report on the record: Fielder has said that Holmes' partner Billy Evans tried to exert control over the process, and that communication broke down. The film was shot over a 34-day stretch before Holmes began her prison sentence in 2023.
Meanwhile, Elsewhere On The Chart
- Wildwood held No. 3 with about $7.5 million, per Variety.
- Wicker took fourth with about $4.1 million, a drop of just 28%.
- Variety says the doc hasn't even opened internationally yet. Deadline lists Turkey so far, with Australia/NZ on Nov. 12 and the UK on Nov. 20.
Sunday's hourly numbers reportedly favor the doc, so Monday's actuals will tell us who really wins Halloween weekend.
So we have to ask: did you see it, and does a three-hour documentary deserve to beat a superhero movie? Team You Can See Everything or Team Clayface? Sound off below.
